Big Fairtrade Breakfast

New Life Church celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight by joining the Fairtrade Foundations’ Big Fairtrade Breakfast on Sunday.

The Sunday school children watched a video sharing the story of when the disciples went fishing, and Jesus cooked them breakfast on the beach. They thought about Jesus’s treatment of people, how he cares for and loves them, and how they could reflect this in their own lives, so they can “love one another as I (Jesus) have loved you.”

Hearing of how farmers and their families often don’t have enough food to eat due to not receiving fair wages for their hard work, the group were keen to make a difference.

They later learned how Fairtrade ensures farmers receive a fair price for their goods, working with 1.5 million farmers and workers in parts of Africa, Asia and Latin and Central America, enabling them to earn a sustainable income.  The Fairtrade Premium paid on every Fairtrade item, means that they can invest in vital community, business and environmental projects.

The group realised that their choices can improve the lives of others, and that choosing Fairtrade is one way they can be like Jesus, standing up for justice and fairness and loving the people who work hard to produce our food.

The Sunday school children shared their learning with the Church, and they all gave thanks and prayed for the farmers and producers who make our food.

Fairtrade tea, coffee, hot chocolate and orange juice, with a selection of Traidcraft Fairtrade geo bars were shared together as part of the Big Fairtrade Breakfast.

New Life Church are hosting a free community Easter Vintage Tea, with Easter Crafts and Egg Hunt on Monday 28th March, 12 noon, in Lllanteg Village Hall.

Fairtrade refreshments will be served on the day.
